7 Social Media Content Ideas for June 2026 That Aren't "Sales Slop"
I just opened a marketing email and was shocked by how dated the content calendar advice felt. So I made my own list — 7 timely June ideas that will actually engage your followers.
Instead of sharing something from the cultural zeitgeist their aim was on things I'd expect to find in a 2013 Mashable article about social media content calendar ideas. Groundbreaking for the time, sure, but it's been 13 years. Social media has evolved to be a fast-paced beast where every second matters, and trending topics are fleeting at best.
So, sure, making content about National Cheese Day, Selfie Day, and Sunglasses Day are fine ideas if executed correctly — but they're not great ideas. They're expected.
And yet, while I judge these ideas for being too basic, the majority of local businesses that I see on my timeline post primarily what I call "sales slop" — which forgets to do even this. That's where most brands get stuck with their content.
They're so focused on the sale that their content stops listening to their audience and what they care about — outside of the specific items that they're trying to sell of course. Buy this. Buy that. Now! Now! Now! Before it's too late!
Sorry to yuck your yum — but yuck!
As your SMM buddy and a millennial marketer, I don't approve of that. So, I made my own list.
Here are 7 content ideas for June 2026 that will actually engage your followers:
01 — House of the Dragon
Memes, references, or "your brand as a character" — lean into the cultural conversation. Whether you're recasting your team as the Targaryens or just jumping on a reaction meme, House of the Dragon content is appointment viewing for millions right now. The algorithm rewards timeliness.
02 — Pride Month — post something gay. No pause necessary.
Post something celebratory. Ideas: ___ as a drag queen, 5 iconic ___ for Pride month, post a rainbow in something and mention Pride. The brands that hesitate signal more than the brands that engage. Pick a lane and own it — your queer customers are watching.
03 — FIFA World Cup
Reactions, predictions, bracket memes. Sports moments are real-time engagement gold because everyone's watching and has an opinion. You don't have to be a sports brand to play — "which World Cup team is your brand?" works for anyone.
04 — Solstice
June 20th is the summer solstice — the longest day of the year. Great for reflective, seasonal, or "light"-themed content. "The longest day deserves..." is a great hook. Pair it with a product, a vibe, or a team photo in the sun.
05 — Graduation Parties & Cookouts
Who's invited to the cookout? Ask your audience. Congratulate your local graduates. Share a throwback from your own grad era. This content hits nostalgia, community, and celebration all at once — and it gets saved and shared.
06 — NBA Finals
Live reactions, MVP picks, bracket memes. The Finals reliably spike engagement across every platform because fans post in real time. Even a simple "we're watching" story performs. Get in the conversation early.
07 — Toy Story 5
Create a meme referencing Toy Story, give your brand the Pixar treatment and put yourself in Toy Story, or use the theme song over b-roll footage and text. Pure nostalgia fuel — the millennial parents are already emotional and the algorithm knows it.

Now, layer all of these on with the list from Meltwater, and your normal once-a-week sales content and you've got a content calendar that's more active and creative than 99% of other businesses.
The brands that win on social aren't the ones with the biggest budgets — they're the ones paying attention to what their audience actually cares about right now. June is loaded. Use it.
